- Shalom! When it comes to hats I have lots of them. In fact, it used to be said about me that I have a "hat face". The truth is that I really do wear a lot of hats; Singer-Songwriter /Jewish-Americana-Israeli, Certified Clinical Musician / Healthcare & Healing Artist, Educator, Mother, Friend, Cantorial Soloist... hmmmm.... they call me "the spiritual one"... passionate and compassionate, world traveler, straight-shooter... In a nutshell.... I'm a person.

You are invited to visit another NEW WEBSITE: Listen Like Learn. I am a certified instructor and teacher trainer in the Cass-Beggs music programs for babies and young children. There are many programs that profess to teach music from as early as babies, but none of them compare to Barbara's tried and true methods. Barbara studied with the music education pioneers including Dalcroze, Kodaly, and Orff and successfully integrated their practices into hers. Barbara's contribution to teaching music to young children was that she was able to develop a method to reach as young as babies - including newborns! I was blessed to have had Barbara as a mentor. I worked with her personally for three years to learn her method, establish a branch of the association in Israel, and then later I became certified to train others in her method. Please go to the TWO websites to learn more about the importance of including music in your children's lives! LISTEN LIKE LEARN and YOUR CHILD NEEDS MUSIC.

Another Farmer's Market. Note the flags! A heartwarming story. While singing my song/psalm "Al Naharot Bavel/Babylon/Psalm 137" I was approached by an elderly man. He stood very close to me while I sang and listened intently. He was wearing a T-shirt with a photo that was clearly him in earlier days... An American soldier. We talked a bit. He thanked me for singing in Hebrew because it reminded him of his Jewish wife who died 30 years ago....but with whom he had 25 very good years. I sang him another Psalm... "Bterem Harim/Before Mountains/Psalm 90". Then he told me a funny joke ....the punchline was "Ma nishtana..." - why is this (K)night.... Which he said in perfect Hebrew. We laughed together. I gave him my CD "Time Passes By" which includes the two Hebrew Psalms that I sang to him, and he put a few dollars in my tip basket. I'm still thinking about Richard, this wonderful elderly and partly blind ex-Marine (WW2) who warmed my heart at the market... The only one who really paid attention that day. My music is available at: http://www.rahelmusic.com.

Music is a wonderful thing. I, for one, cannot live without it in my life. It is music that enables me to live a joyous life and music that allows me to bring joy into the lives of others. I am blessed to be a versatile musician; I compose, perform, teach, and create therapeutic settings with my music. Please take the time to view this video of a SING ALONG SENIORS interactive concert at a senior residence in Nashua, NH. This concert was particularly fun and I want to extend my gratitude to the gentleman who filmed it. I share it with permission granted. Please enjoy all or just some of the fun musical moments.

There's a lot of magic in the country when that country is ISRAEL! For over twenty years I was an active member of the "Anglo" folk music scene there. I played with a number of folk musicians and in duos, trios and groups. We were dubbed "Anglo's" because we all came from English speaking countries and brought the music of those countries with us. We loved to sing and play music together and could be found all over Israel sharing our culture with the greater population. Today what began as a monthly folk music gathering now has gained a place in the world of International Folk Music Festivals - the "Jacob's Ladder Folk Festival" - where I performed most of my twenty-two years between 1976-1998. Today our children, many of them Israeli-born, are carrying on our cultural traditions and have formed some amazing bands of "Anglo" folk music too. I was delighted to reunite with a few of my folkie friends to perform a lovely casual evening of bluegrass, country, folk and folk rock music on January 30th (2014). The concert took place in my favorite town, Zichron Yaakov at a local restaurant/bar, "The Old Station". By the way, if you are going to be in Zichron Yaakov be sure to choose the best bed & breakfast ever, "Seagull". My good friend, Eliemelech ben Meir, formerly of the band, "Galilee Grass" gathered up a few additional musicians who live in Northern Israel and we had an instant band. I was also joined by my friend, Shelley Ellen of the group, "SheRock", Joshua and Gayla Goodman from the "Hazel Hill String Band", and Bruce Burger aka "Rebbesoul". It was also great to spend time with folk music lovers, Barbara and Richard Levine at their home in Har Halutz. Life couldn't get any better!
Music is a wonderful gift. What a gift to be able to perform original compositions with my good friend, Dvorah Belenky in a special concert of wonders and miracles on February 1st (2014) in Ma'aleh Adumim, Israel. Our flute and guitar recital took place in an intimate setting for a small group of very appreciative and wonderful women. We were able to bring smiles to their faces and a lot of joy to us all as we ushered in the Hebrew month of Adar. Please also check out Dvorah's CD's with the "Shevet Achim Family Ensemble". HERE and HERE and HERE. -- לפרטים נוספים: דבורה בילינקי ל' 02-5355588 הרכב שבט אחים "Nisim sheb'Chol Yom Imanu"; Miracles in our Lives Machanaim Cultural Center, "Ma'ale Shimon", HeChalil 19, the building next to the synagogue, at 8:30 PM, Bet Adar, Feb. 2, 20 NIS entrance fee. Info: 02-535-5588 "Nisim she-b'Chol Yom Imanu", miracles that are always with us; a verse from the "Modim" prayer, a prayer of thanks to G-D. This verse relates to G-D's hidden hand in our personal lives. We chose this theme since we'll be performing in Adar. The theme is appropriate to Purim where G-D's miracles were hidden. Through songs, compositions and personal stories, Dvorah Belenky, flutist and composer from the "Shevet Achim" musical group and CD: "Beyond the Sounds" shevet-achim.tk, and Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist, Rahel share a repertoire of original and traditional music; a repertoire that will reflect gratitude to G-D's Divine guidance in our lives.
I had the privilege and pleasure of reuniting with my good friend, Yona Yacobovitz and the ladies from Israel's longest standing #1 all-woman Jewish band, Tofa'ah. We came together in friendship and to produce a concert to raise funds for Yona's special needs children, Yissy and Eli, as well as for special needs children around Israel. The well-attended concert took place in Jerusalem on February 4th (2014). We, and the audience had a tremendously fun time. Please enjoy the photos below. If you would like to help special needs children in Israel by making a donation, please contact me via this blog. Please also watch this very special video clip of Tzfat (Safed) artist Chaya ben Baruch's biological son, Avichai and adopted daughter, Keren, both Down’s syndrome children who fell in love, married and now live as a young couple in their own apartment. Chaya is forming a non-profit organization that will help children like Avichai and Keren live independent lives. Your support is certainly encouraged.
